Dear MarketPlace Family,
I am currently in India and wanted to share some incredible
experiences with you! Twice a year, I have the privilege of visiting the artisans, and each time, I am reminded of why I love my job so much.
This visit coincided with the festive season of Ganapathi, Navratri, Dasara, and Diwali. During Navratri, which lasts nine days, the
staff and artisans celebrated by wearing the color of the day, symbolizing the different qualities of the goddess Durga. It was so much fun seeing everyone’s creative interpretations of the colors! The community spirit among the staff and artisans was truly alive.
I visited
three cooperatives—Aashiyana, Women’s Artisans Rehabilitation Enterprise (WARE), and Aakasa. These women face real challenges but continue to push forward with determination and optimism. At WARE, I was deeply touched to see that after years of financial management training, the women had matured their group’s fixed deposit account, with each receiving over 120,000 Rupees. The pride in their achievement was contagious!
One of the highlights of my trip was attending a children's dance class and Vedic Math session—both filled with energy and excitement. The joy and eagerness of the children were truly heartwarming.
I also met with fabric
suppliers from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. Together, we discussed the challenges of small-batch production, such as accurate color matching and timely delivery. It was a very productive and energizing meeting.
Despite the travel challenges, every visit leaves me more inspired and convinced that women can overcome anything. When you shop with us, I hope you feel the same sense of pride knowing you’re a vital part of this
journey!
